Hi, I just upgraded my Dell XPS 16 to Ubuntu 11.04. Microphone used to work great under 10.04 and 10.10, but here I can't get it to work. Pulseaudio is running and in my sound preferences I tried the various 'Hardware Profiles', as well as differents 'Connectors', so I am wondering if could be a ALSA issue though I'm not sure at all.

A couple of the laptops have taken the upgrade without issue as expected however others specifically the Dell XPS M1530 is causing problems. The issue specifically is the built in mic, put simply it won’t work. He’s double checked the mic in multiple programs and it’s not working on anything and after some trouble shooting seems to be a clear issue with hardware/ drivers rather than anything else. This is happening on a few laptops all the same make/model. He has tried using the drivers which initially came with the laptop, these don’t work. He’s also tried the official Dell site which gave him evidence of a large number of people complaining about the exact same issue but sadly no suggested fix. It would seem Dell haven’t released any Win 7 drivers for the mic, however it could simply be that we can’t find them.
